Dharma Service Commemorates Buddha’s Enlightenment
On 22nd January, the Diamond Sutra Dharma Function was held to commemorate Sakyamuni Buddha’s Enlightenment Day. Venerable Miaoyu led everyone in chanting the Diamond Sutra and blessed the 50 people who attended.
The Venerable shared with everyone the origins of the ‘Eight Treasure Congee’ and explained that eating the commemorative congee on this day is not just for the joy of it, but is a symbolic gesture of our commitment towards learning from the wisdom of the Buddha and putting what we have learnt into practice by participating in Temple activities and becoming volunteers.
The volunteers who delivered the special congee shared their feelings and interesting experiences of participating in the delivery, and expressed that they were proud to be a disciple of the Buddha.
At the conclusion of the Dharma Function, the devotees enjoyed piping hot congee and experienced the significance of Buddha’s Enlightenment. This special day is a reminder for Buddhists to be diligent in their practice.
