Saturday English Service
The regular English Saturday Service was held on 30 January and 6 members attended. They practiced Tai Chi across the field of merit followed by standing meditation under the guidance of Venerable Miao Yu. She guided them to observe their physical body which made up of the four elements: earth, water, fire and air; she asked everyone to feel each of their organs and reflect on how their emotions and attachments influence health and encouraged everyone to spend sometime ‘communicating’ with their body.
After the meditation, they visit the Art Gallery where the ‘Way of life’ Photographic Exhibition is held. Venerable Miao Yu asked everyone to pick a photograph which they like most and share with the group the reasons why they chose that particular photograph. Everyone shared their feelings on the connotation of the photographs.
During the group sharing, Venerable Miao Yu explained the significance of four photographs which were shown in the exhibition: Hitting the Board tell the times of the day because in the past, there were no clocks; the chiming of the big bell signifies no worries and cultivation of wisdom; the striking of the big drum encourages good thoughts and lastly, Buddhists chant to purify one’s body, speech and mind.
At the end of the session, Venerable Miao Yu encouraged everyone to participate in the coming Annual Reunion Dinner on 6 February to share their realizations and achievements with the Buddha.
