Family Visit to Hope Dixon (English Sub-chapter)
Fo Guang Shan (North Island) had their 3rd family visit to the home of Hope Dixon, Secretary of English Sub-chapter on 19 January 2010. Abbess Venerable Manshin, Venerable Manwang, Venerable Miao Yu, Venerable Rulian, YAD members and 8 other English Sub-chapter members were in the visiting party. It started with a blessing and purification ceremony led by the Abbess then followed by a group discussion.
Hope shared her working experience in China and one of her first encounters with Buddhism when she visited the historical city of Dunhuang which is a renowned tourist city famous for the Mogao Caves in China. She was amazed by the magnificent Mogao Grottoes which are filled with some of the most extensive and exquisite collection of Buddhist paintings and sculptures in the world. She has since started her Buddhist practice and now Buddhism is integrated into her life.
Abbess Venerable Manshin encouraged everyone to break away from conventional perceptions of this mundane world. She hopes everyone can develop one’s mind and acquire wisdom through the study of Buddhism, self-reflection and meditation in order to see things as they really are.
