Beijing Art and Culture Educator Meets FGS
Mr. Wu, on holiday in New Zealand from Beijing, China, after seeing articles in the local newspaper on the recent “Wondering Comfortably in the Floriculture” Pressed Flower Exhibition displayed at Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery South Island; made a special trip to come and see the exhibition on 30th December.
Mr. Wu, being well educated in the field of Art and Culture, has a deep understanding and insight into Chinese Art and Culture. He is also very familiar in areas of Buddhism literature and Calligraphy Art.
Mr. Wu praised the pressed flower artworks created by Ms. Shanshan Shiao, especially the “Heart Sutra”. He also enlightened everyone present by linking the various components of the ‘Heart Sutra’ piece with its historical background. After being given a guided tour of Fo Guang Shan South Island, he expressed his admiration and approval of the undertakings of the Temple. He also showed great interest towards the building itself and raised various questions regarding its architecture.
As Mr. Wu is currently in charge of “Mei Lanfang Memorial”, he said that although most people are well informed of his art and theatrical attainments, very few knew that he is a devout Buddhist and has collected a number of Buddhism artworks. Mr. Wu hopes that in the future, there will be opportunities for him to exchange experiences of Art and Culture with and recommend artists to Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery.
The Temple presented him with a copy of “Way of Life”, BLIA Activities Report and the 2010 FGS NZ Calendar.
