Taiwan Council for Hakka Affairs visit New Zealand Fo Guang Shan (North Island)
Hakka Society of New Zealand Chairman Mr James Huang and Taiwan Council for Hakka Affairs Deputy Minister Mr Liu Tung Lung and 3 of his team visited Fo Guang Shan (North Island) after attending a Tino Rangatira (Maori flag) ceremony on 1 January.
The Society aims to preserve the language and culture of the Hakka. They will be in New Zealand for 8 days studying how the New Zealand Government preserves the language and culture of Maori, hoping to gain some insights.
Abbess Venerable Manshin, Venerable Man Wang and BLIA President Dolly Tsai accompanied them around the Temple , explaining its construction and the development of the propagation of the Dharma in New Zealand. They also showed them the Green Stone from the South Island presented to the Temple by the tangata whenua at the Temple grand opening.
After the Temple tour, they visited artist Tang Yin Ling’s art exhibition in the Art Gallery , explained and personally led by the artist herself.
Mr Liu Tung Lung commended Fo Guang Shan (North Island) in its effort propagating Dharma in New Zealand but also its effort in keeping alive Chinese Culture in New Zealand.
