Especially for Mother’s Day Celebration

01 / 10

Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island New Zealand (NZ) has arranged a series of events in commemoration of Mother’s Day. Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery Christchurch then invited Ikebana Christchurch NZ – Sogetsu Teacher’s Association over to display an Ikebana (art of Japanese flower arranging) exhibition from the 11th to 14th of May.

On the afternoon of 10 May, seven Ikebana artists under President Lyn Leslie and Secretary Ellen Loader proceeded to FGS South Island NZ in beginning their flower arrangements. The skilful individual works, using a variety of flowers, vessels and objects, led to many loving pieces of artwork that presents a strong feeling of affection for all mothers. A total of nine Sogetsu Ikebana work pieces were displayed in the Main Shrine and art gallery area.

Ellen introduced Sogetsu as a modern flower arrangement genre that breaks away from forms and norms. It focuses on the reality of life, incorporating western artistic ideals into the art of arranging flowers. She specifically chose carnations, a symbol of motherly love and respect in her flower presentation that day, dedicated to all mothers. Another Ikebana artist, Gloria said it was her first time visiting Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery Christchurch. After finishing her artwork, she found herself at ease in the quiet and relaxing place, and was pleased that each of the flower pieces blended well with the art gallery’s environs. All of the Ikebana artists were grateful to have the chance to showcase their work at the art gallery, expressing their gratitude and respect to all mothers with their exquisite flower art craft.
