East Auckland Edgewater College Tours Fo Guang Shan North Island
On the afternoon of 11th April, Edgewater College teacher Linda and Year 10 students were welcomed to Fo Guang Shan North Island. The tour involved the visitors being introduced to Humanistic Buddhism’s development in education, culture, art and so on.
Venerable Miaoyu guided a tour to each of the Shrines and explained the philosophy and stories behind them. Students noticed the Pagoda’s patio surrounded by the Diamond Sutra, Venerable Miaoyu used this opportunity to allow the students to understand the nature of life and to respect every single life.
While visiting the One Stroke Calligraphy exhibition, the students were amazed and surprised the calligraphyies are from Venerable Master Hsing Yun, who is 90 years old. Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s never say never spirit is has become their role model. The tour also visited one of the best known local artist Dean Buchanan’s exhibition. Towards the final which is also the highlight was visiting the Siddhartha in the Human World exhibition. The students spent a long time in there and were unwilling to go. The Students promised to take friends and relatives back to the template again.
