FGS Volunteers’ English Buddhism Class Begins!

01 / 06

In order help FGY Art Gallery volunteers build a stronger foundation in basic English Buddhism knowledge, FGS South Island Social Education Group’s Shenghan Lim has as set up an English Basic Buddhism Course.

In the evening of 13th December, the first class was held, and the 20 people who attended included Venerable Juexi, Venerable Miaoyu and volunteers. Class contents included English Buddhist terminology and its explanation, and skills and knowledge required to answer questions regarding Buddhism.

The students actively engaged during the class, asking many questions along the way. Because the students found it difficult to understand the English explanations of the terminology, Venerable Juexi used Chinese to explain each concept and term.

This English plus Chinese approach worked effectively, with students grasping a more complete meaning of each term while learning how to use English to introduce concepts of Buddhism. In addition, students were also able to strengthen their foundation in Chinese Buddhism studies. As the one hour long class concluded, the students left with a better understanding of English Buddhist terminology and concepts.
