Humanistic Buddhism Life Talk Discusses the Bodhi Mind

On 13th December, BLIA South Island North-one Subchapter invited Dharma Lecturer Roma Chen to be a guest speaker for the “Humanistic Buddhism Life Talk”. This time, the topic was “How to guard your Bodhi Mind”, and the 30 BLIA members who attended the talk included President Mr. Almeric Cheng, Vice-president Meihua Chen, North-one Subchapter President Guihua Yang and other BLIA members. Temple supervisor Venerable Juexi and Venerable Miaoyu were also present.

Firstly, Dharma Lecturer Ms. Chen shared her personal experiences of learning Buddhism, and of how she vowed to sincerely offer the Dharma to everyone using her Bodhi mind. She explained that the Bodhi mind is t he enlightened mind; it is one that walks the path of the Buddha, and one that aims to liberate sentient beings from suffering.

Ms. Chen then talked about the Prajna mind, suggesting that with Prajna, one can find awaken to one’s own mind. She also said that Humanistic Buddhism is that of the Bodhi mind, compassion, joy, generosity; and is not separate from our daily lives. She also praised Venerable Master Hsingyun for propagating Humanistic Buddhism’s great vows.

Ms. Chen kept the Talk lively and interesting and captivated the audiences’ attention by using stories to explain her interpretations of the Dharma. Reflecting back on the twenty years of learning Buddhism, Ms. Chen expressed that she could deeply experience the benefits of Buddhism in her life, and as a result, made a vow to become a Dharma Lecturer so that she can help others gain a better understanding of Buddhism.

Ms. Chen also introduced Buddhist terminology and explained their meanings, and encouraged everyone to practice the Six Paramitas, Noble Eightfold Path and Four Noble Truths; as well as explained the importance of the concept “dependant origination” in the practice of Buddhism. She also encouraged everyone to form good affinities with people, cultivate together and support Buddhism.

At the conclusion of the Talk, Venerable Juexi thanked Ms. Chen for her Dharma offering and for providing the audience a wealth of Dharma, and encouraged everyone to put into practice what they have learnt. The Venerable also wished everyone a life journey full of the Dharma.
