Christchurch Artist draws Portrait of Master Hsing Yun
Local artist Jon Jeet and Roimata Sinclair visited Fo Guang Shan South Island New Zealand on the 12th of January. With a respectful heart, they gave a light offering to the Buddha statue, as well as a piece of traditional Maori jade stone as a measure of good wishes.
Afterwards, the two artists had a meal at the Teahouse, and was intrigued by Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “Bowl of pickled vegetables” story. Upon hearing more about the story, they were so touched by the well-meaning behind the Teahouse and its background that they immediately took out their art tools and started to draw a portrait of Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Their illustration of Venerable Master Hsing Yun was very realistic, much to the admiration of the people around them. Besides that, Jon and Roimata also made a copy of the courtyard’s mural, tracing the figure of Venerable heading to the hills as viewed from behind, with mere pencil lead capturing the essence of the scene.
Lastly, Jon and Roimata presented the works to the temple guardians, and said that they very much liked the tranquil atmosphere of the temple. They hope to visit the temple again and capture more vivid works of art on their paper.
