On 1st December 20 students from Manurewa High School came to visit the temple with their teacher. They were received by Sub-chapter 4’s Venerable Miaoyu and BLIA member Nick. They led the group through various shrines and explained their respective functions. They also shared the history of Fo Guang Shan’s propagation of Humanistic Buddhism through art, culture and education.

The students were further taught the concepts of “Three Good Deeds and Four Kinds of Giving” through fun activities such as lotus origami, calligraiphy, and learning about the rich cultural symbolism the architectures and garden arrangements. They were also given gits of book marks with Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s quotes.

The students were very appreciative of having such a great temple in their community. They were happy to have learned so much about Buddhism’s culture today and were astonished at how much effort and dedication the temple has put toward making educating society and making every visit feel joyful and at ease when they visit.

On the same day there was also another temple tour consisted of 10 members from the “Fizz Photography Club”. This club has over 440 members nationwide. Under temple’s tranquil atmosphere and caring attendance of the BLIA volunteers, the visitors enthusiastically took photos of all the significant features of the temple ground. They were also shown the “Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s One Stroke Calligraphy World travelling Tour Exhibition”. To this they were amazed and awed by the Venerable Master’s diligence and perseverance at such a senior age of 90.

Afterwards Nick invited everyone to join “Friends of Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery” so they be notified of all the temple’s art and cultural activities, such as the upcoming “Kim Toeh Southern African Photography Exhibition” on 1st January. Then on 4th March there will be an “Art Salon” art exchange event. It is hoped art lovers can gather to show case their works on stages provided by the temple.
