Impossible is nothing -Just do it ~ Graduation of Sheng Han –Member of Fo Guang Shan (South Island, New Zealand) Youth Group

The value of a five dollars note will not decrease in value even one crumples it. The potential and capability of a person will not be demolished if one never gives up. This is demonstrated by Lin Shen Han, member of the South Island YAD.

Three years ago, Venerable Abbess Manshin and a few members of the youth group celebrated Sheng Han’s successful admission to the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, by sharing a pot of vermicelli. Three years later, on 15 December 2009, they celebrated the successful completion of his University degree with a feast of sumptuous vegetarian food.

Sheng Han has lived in the temple since he was a young boy as he was too hyperactive and playful for his parents to handle. During the speeches before the dinner Venerable Abbess Manshin and Venerable Jue Xi humorously shared their experiences in bringing up this ‘problematic’ child. They used all kind of methods to tame him hoping to instill in him the right morals and attitudes and it was not an easy task or process for both the adults and Sheng Han. He wanted to drop out of high school and some said that he was a hopeless case and would never make it to University.

However, all the effort put into him was not wasted. Today, he not only gained entry to the university, he also graduated with outstanding results, coming in the top two of his cohort in Education and Chinese studies.

Impossible is nothing. Just do it.
