1. Farewell to New Zealand North Island Fo Guang Chinese School Teacher
Teacher Feng Xiao Ling has been teaching Chinese Language in Fo Guang Chinese School for almost 5 years, since the temple moved to its new location. She teaches children who do not speak Mandarin at home. For the past five years, her enthusiasm has touched many parents and students. Not only has the students’ language ability improved, so have their manners. However, due to her busy schedule, Miss Feng is leaving Fo Guang Chinese School on the 19 December 2009.
To show appreciation for her contribution to the Chinese school, Venerable Man Wang from the New Zealand North Island Temple presented her with a series of “Between Ignorance and Enlightenment” books written by the founder of Fo Guang Shan, Master Venerable Hsing Yun; and a box of tea leaves from Taiwan. Venerable Man Wang praised Miss Feng for her enthusiasm and passion for teaching the children.
Miss Feng says that teachers are the soul of the educational system. A teacher should possess enthusiasm and passion for teaching and be able to understand the needs of every student. She speaks highly of the Fo Guang Chinese school and hopes that when time permits, she can continue to contribute to the school again.
