English Saturday Service - In search of the Inner-self
Fifteen members joined the Saturday Service on 12 December 2009 by practicing Tai Chi in the Meditation Hall, led by Venerable Miao Yu. They enjoyed the breeze as they took part in walking and motive meditation followed by a slow walking meditation across the spacious field of merit in front of Fo Guang Shan’s Main Shrine. The morning was concluded with a group discussion in the Meditation Hall.
During the discussions Venerable Miao Yu stated the importance of meditation practice. She emphasized that true peacefulness comes from within and cannot be found externally. One must first overcome one’s selfish blind desires in order to attain true inner peace. As Buddhism is a religion to discover one’s inner self, she encouraged everyone to understand oneself and in doing this experience the necessary hardships and difficulties with deep reflection that only the individual can transcend.
