Propagation and Localisation of Humanistic Buddhism
Fo Guang Shan North Island NZ and the City Council of Manukau have been working together in the propagation and the localization of the Humanistic Buddhism in New Zealand since the founding of the temple in 2007. On 10 December 2009, Buddha Light International Association (BLIA North Island) President Dolly Tsai and Advisor Peter Young met with the Manukau City Council Event Manager Barbara Cox and Event Coordinator Torise Flags to discuss about the collaboration of BLIA and the City Council of Manukau for the upcoming events in 2010.
One of the events discussed was the Waitangi Day Multicultural Celebration to be held at the Sir Barry Curtis Park (next to the Temple) on 6 February 2010. The Temple is invited to set up a booth and give performances in the park to promote Humanistic Buddhism. The City Council has also cordially invited FGS to take part in the seed cultivation project and Arbor Day which is an annual day dedicated to tree planting and celebrating New Zealand's unique biodiversity. FGS is delighted to be invited to these meaningful activities to introduce the residents to their local parks and educate them about the important role of trees in the community and how they can be involved in helping to protect their local environment.
