On 10th November, FGS South Island held a staff meeting which was attended by Venerable Miaoyu, Tea House staff Gina Chen, Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery South Island Public Relations Officer Seeshen Lee, News Team leader James Low, Administrator Tracy Chen, English Social Education leader Shenghan Lim, Designer Benny Wong and several others. Temple Supervisor Venerable Juexi chaired the meeting, and each group reported on their work in progress and highlighted the new direction in the propagation of Buddhism.

Topics that were discussed and reported include: adding a Chinese menu to the Tea House’s English menu, and group bookings and activity combos; updating the data for next years bright light registration, and the need to explain the significance of lighting a lamp while promoting it; the Art Gallery’s poster for Shan Shan Hsiao’s Exhibition, and the progress of the work; the Art Gallery’s plan to construct a website for itself by March, 2009; from 13th December, the English Social Education Group will be conducting a Weekly English Basic Buddhism Class each Sunday at 6:30pm to enhance the Temple staff, reception team and volunteers’ understanding and knowledge of basic Buddhism.

Venerable Juexi explained to everyone at the meeting that they should change the roles they play from being a guest to being the host, and from being passive to taking the initiative to attend to the visitors of the Temple. She also encouraged everyone to resolve to give service to the Temple and community, as in doing so they may accumulate merits. The Venerable also encouraged everyone to search for and foster talents, so that these people may join in the undertakings of Dharma propagation and fulfill the important responsibility while bringing diversity to it.
