The Secret to Healthy Eating and Living Revealed
A routine lifestyle and good eating habits are essentials for healthy living. BLIA South Island West sub-chapter organised a seminar with title of “Health and Nutritious” on 20th September at Fo Guang Shan South Island. Registered nurse Ms. Liao was invited to give a talk to more than 30 attendees, who included BLIA West-one Sub-chapter Mrs. Tsai and other BLIA committee members.
During the seminar, Ms. Liao explained how to gain optimum physical well-being through selected food preparation techniques and a healthy eating habit. She emphasised that wrong eating habits would lead to malnutrition, fatigue, a higher susceptibility to influenza and delayed healing and recovery. Nurse Ms. Liao also stressed the importance of maintaining hydration, and at the same time explained the dangers and consequences of regular dehydration.
Ms. Liao then covered how good personal health and lifestyle must be achieved through positive improvements in ones diet. This good health and lifestyle begins with more exercise; avoiding cigarettes and regular medical examinations. Reducing the intake of acidic food reduces the risk of developing cancer. She also discussed the types of nutrients found in food, such as protein, carbohydrate, fat, fibre and vitamins. She also introduced to everyone the antioxidants which prevent heart disease and cancer.
In the latter part of the seminar, Ms. Liao reminded everyone the importance of being wary of the ingredients of the food they purchase and monitoring the type of food they consume in minimising the risk of illness. The talk concluded with a question and answer session and a blood pressure check service for the attendees. The attendees expressed their appreciation with a big round of applause.
