English Buddhism Seminar Accessible to Locals
BLIA South Island held another session of the Humanistic Buddhism Life Talk on 18th July at FGS South Island. BLIA South Island President Almeric Cheng was the speaker, and engaged on the topic of entering Buddhism and becoming Buddhists.
During the session, Mr. Cheng briefed everyone with basic Buddhism concepts and knowledge. Those in attendance included BLIA South Island Vice-presidents Mei-Hua Chen and Jack Liu, BLIA North one Sub-chapter President Gui-Hua Yang, Director Louisa Guo, BLIA members and devotees, totalling 30 people.
Using English, Mr. Cheng delivered basic Buddhism education, and explained to the attendees the three Dharma seals, the four sufferings, the five precepts and the eightfold noble path, to name several. The Christchurch locals were interested in the topics; they asked many questions which had been lingering in the back of their minds.
Mr. Cheng humorously responded to everyone one’s questions, while letting them know that Buddhism is a lively religion, and is a worthwhile life improving philosophy. Mr. Cheng used stories to illustrate the purpose of taking the five precepts, in a way which everyone could understand.
Finally Mr. Cheng gave his wishes to everyone, and hopes that everyone will be diligent on the Buddhist path, and expressed that the class has helped himself grow, and encouraged everyone to maintain a close relationship with the Temple, so that they may learn from the Venerables. Everyone gave a warm round of applause for Mr. Cheng’s humorous talk and for FGS South Island providing a beautiful space and the rare and precious conditions to listen to the Dharma.
