A Day for World Peace
On the evening of 10th December, Venerable Abbess Manshin was invited to attend the “A Evening for World Peace and Human Right” event organised by the NZ Muslim Association and Human Right Commission. It was held at a Mosque in West Auckland and attended by Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi; National Party MP, Hon Phil Goff; Member of Labour Party, Dame Susan Devoy; Head of Human Rights Commission, Ikhlaq Kashkari; President of NZ Muslim Association, and many representatives from Islam, Catholic, Jewish and Hindu organisations, altogether 60 people in attendance.
Ikhlaq shared words at beginning inviting everyone to pray for world peace and support international human right. He also urged everyone to be united in order to face the distress and panic induced by the recent terror attacks.
Representatives from various political parties and religious organisations also came up to speak about world peace, inter faith dialogue, cooperation, human right and condemnation of international terrorism.
The Abbess spoke about Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s motto of “Importance of Faith”:
1. Faith gives us endless amount of treasure.
2. Faith allows us to understand how to enjoy life, which is more important than material possession.
3. Faith teaches us how to create good affinities, share and give back to others, so we can become our own benefactors.
4. Faith allows us to experience the harmonious joy of Meditative Concentration, so our mind can be enriched with wisdom.
Some speakers especially reminded everyone to support and care for the Muslim community, to which the Islamic organisation representatives that they will obey New Zealand laws, support and cooperate with the government and other community organisations. The policy also encouraged everyone to support human right in order to create a harmonious society.
