Celebrating the Memories of Mother Teresa

On the 21st of November 2015, Christ the King Church in Auckland celebrated the Commemoration of Mother Teresa. By invitation, Venerable Abbess Manshin, other religion and community leaders also attended the commemoration. In memory and honour of Mother Teresa, every one present took the occasion to pay respect to the victims of the terrorist attack in Paris.

Organised by the committee of the Mother Teresa multicultural society, the remembrance activities included candle lighting, enlightening songs, speeches, poetry, documentaries etc. Many important guests turned up at the commemoration, including the Minister for Ethnic Communities Mr Peseta Sam Lotu-Inga, representatives of the Mother Teresa society, the Catholic Bishop of Auckland Mr Patrick Dunn. Representing Fo Guang Shan New Zealand were Venerable Abbess Manshin, North Island President Steven Xu, BLIA Youth leaders Essa, Nick and a few other members.

In his speech, the Catholic Bishop of Auckland Mr Patrick Dunn said “Seeking the Truth” is one of human’s aspirations. Throughout her life, Mother Teresa was preaching love, peace and faith. The Bishop added that through sharing, open discussion and exploration, life would be more meaningful and fulfilled.

At the end of the ceremony, every one mingled around and shared their ideas and experiences. Many religion and community leaders such as the Indian Newslink Editor Mr Venkat Raman expressed their gratitude towards Venerable Abbess Manshin. Mr Peseta Sam Lotu-Inga even enquired about his potential visit to the Fo Guang Shan temple and immediately asked his assistant to make arrangement, signifying another step towards localisation of Humanistic Buddhism.
