How Do We End Suffering? Venerable Explains

01 / 08

In the evening of 3rd July, another session of the “Introduction to Buddhism” course was held at FGS South Island. During the class, Venerable Juexi continued on the 12 links in the chain of existence, which was taught during the previous few classes.

Those who attended included BLIA Vice-president Mei-Hua Chen, BLIA Director Louisa Guo and 10 other BLIA members. Venerable Juexi talked about the uses of 7th and 8th consciousnesses, while reiterating the contents of teachings Buddha passed to Sariputra, regarding the four lives. The Venerable explained that the 12 links may be divided into three main factors, namely confusion, karma and suffering, and that these three factors causes the vicious cycle of rebirth.

Citing from Sutras, Venerable Juexi said “greed and love are the most severe of the three poisons, and are the cause of all sufferings”. The Venerable encouraged everyone to plant good seeds in their Aliya consciousness, and to form good affinities, while refraining from being attached to greed and love, so that they may be able to liberate themselves from the cycle of death and rebirth. Where there is mindfulness, there is hope. The students gained much knowledge during the classes, as they asked many questions and were willing to share their experiences with others.
