BLIA Activities Meeting Endeavors for Event Excellence
On 20th June, BLIA South Island held an activity meeting at Fo Guang Shan South Island. BLIA South Island President Mr. Almeric Cheng, Vice-presidents Mr. Jack Liu and Mei-Hua Chen, and seven other committee members attended the meeting, which was chaired by Mr. Cheng.
The meeting agenda covered four main issues:
1. The venue for future Buddha’s Birthday Celebrations was intensely discussed; whether the Celebration will be held at Cathedral Square or at the Temple
2. The organisers of the One Day Retreat have high expectations for the event; they wish that old and new members, including western speaking members, will participate in the retreat as well as the taking refuge in the Triple Gem ceremony, and encourage others to do so.
3. A date for the next committee meeting was set, and will be on the 25th of July, at 7pm.
4. Candidates for the BLIA South Island leading representative position for the World BLIA meeting in Singapore from 17th -21st October, 2009 were selected, and candidates were chosen to edit and present the BLIA South Island Report during the meeting in Singapore.
The committee members were more than impressed with the propagation of Buddhism by the Temple and were proud to be a part of Fo Guang Shan. Venerable Juexi encouraged everyone to make full use of their spare time to serve the community, and work together to shoulder the responsibility of propagating Buddhism.
