Christ’s College Students Find Answers at FGS

01 / 09

On 18th June, 5 students from Christ’s College Canterbury, together with their teacher Mr. Allen Pyke, visited Fo Guang Shan South Island. After their lunch at the Tea House, Venerable Juexi and Shenghan Lim took the group on a temple tour. The students had a few questions regarding Buddhism in mind, and the purpose of the trip to the Temple was to seek the answers to them. Venerable Juexi introduced the students to Humanistic Buddhism, Venerable Master Hsing Yun and the concept of the practitioner within the Temple building.

Following the brief tour, the students eagerly and attentively asked questions during the question and answer session on Buddhism they had been waiting in anticipation for. The students asked questions regarding reincarnation, the effects of our behaviour towards our life and karma. They also asked specific questions: Is it possible for humans to become a tree in their next life? What does it take to become a monk? Can a Bodhisattva be reborn as a human? The Venerable answered the students’ questions skillfully, for which the students listened in agreement. Before their departure, the students spent time appreciating the Embroidery Exhibition, where they were amazed by Yao Hong Ying’s works. The young men left the Temple equipped with the answers they were looking for and expressed their eagerness in visiting the Temple again.
