Embroidery Continues to Attract Local Attention
As ‘Wonders of Embroidery – Yao Hong Ying Embroidery Exhibition’ continues to be the talk of the town, on 22nd of May, Ms Leigh Craythorne led a group of eight Trefoil Guild members from Church Corner to Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery South Island to see the exhibition. Trefoil Guild is a local Christchurch community group which aims to organise monthly events and activities for retired members of the community. Ms. Leigh Craythorne said that the idea of bring the group to Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery Two emerged under the recommendation and advice of her friend who had already been to see the exhibition.
They were given a guided tour of the exhibition by Assistant Curator Ms. See Shen Lee. The tour allowed the group to witness and experience the amount of work that had gone into each piece of work which combines over two thousand years of traditional Chinese Embroidery skills with over two hundred years of Western Embroidery skills. After viewing the exhibition, the group enjoyed some delicious afternoon tea at Fo Guang Tea House and many members of the group said that the effort gone into organizing this trip was definitely not a waste. Many also said that they will be visiting the gallery regularly to see the exhibitions and will definitely be recommending the exhibitions to their family and friends.
Apart from the Trefoil Guild group, many local residents also made their way to the gallery despite the wind and rain. Throughout the day, over one hundred people visited the gallery and this filled the gallery with a lively atmosphere and kept the tour guides on their toes. Due to the large number of people coming in to see the exhibition, this has directly led to an increase in customer numbers in Fo Guang Tea House and kept the staff at the tea house busy indeed.
