01 / 04

On 6th May, Ms. Brnadatte Cooney, a reporter for ‘The Press’ and ‘Christchurch Mail’, visited Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery South Island’s Embroidery Art Exhibition. Venerable Juexi and Assistant Curator See Shen Lee welcomed her and took her for a guided tour of the Exhibition.

Ms. Cooney found out about the exhibition through friends, and with their commendation, she wanted to witness the artworks for herself. The reporter was moved by all the artworks, but when she saw the Embroidery artwork “Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva”, she was lost for words, and bowed it respect.

Apart from praising the standard of artisit Mrs. Yao Hong Ying’s work, she expressed her appreciation for the guidance provided by the staff of the Temple. Her initial thought was that Fo Guang Shan South Island was a place for Buddhists or Asians to congregate. However, she never thought that it could be a place for members of the public to display their artworks. After the tour, she realized how much Fo Guang Shan South Island has contributed to the community. Ms. Cooney commented that she will visit the Temple again in future and will strongly recommend the Exhibition and Temple to her friends and family.
