01 / 06

On 25th April, a talk organized by BLIA South Island was held. BLIA South Island President Mr. Almeric Cheng invited guest speaker Dr. Thomas Petschner to give a talk on the topic of “To get a balance in life”. Over 40 people attended the session, including BLIA South Island Vice-presidents Mei-Hua Chen and Jack Liu, BLIA committee members and Temple devotees.

Dr. Thomas Petschner was born in Germany, and obtained his doctorate at the age of 26 years. He has served as the health advisor for several well-known figures and actors. He is a recent migrant of New Zealand, and was present at the Buddha’s Birthday Ceremony, where he brought his daughter to participate in the Baby Blessing Ceremony.

Dr. Thomas Petschner used an interactive way to bring out his message, and also with photos and his sense of humour when giving his talk. Firstly, he talked about the causes that will affect human’s body, such as, water, five elements, population, climate etc.

He also mentioned about the utilisation of yin yang in food, and the affect of picking the right food. For example, having yang-type foods or oriental style foods such as egg is a healthy choice particularly for breakfast, while having yin-type foods or western style foods during breakfast are not appropriate for the human body. He also emphasised the advantages of vegetarian food, which he describes as the most useful way of maintaining a healthy body.

According to Dr. Petschner, our physical condition is reflected through our face, for example, the change in nose shape is the indicator of heart disease, and the shape of one’s face will change according to one’s health condition.

After the two hour session, everyone gained a lot of new knowledge. When several people voiced their doubts, Dr. Thomas was able to provide a good explanation. He supplied the Temple with some useful information, which he hopes will be distributed to the BLIA members. On behalf of BLIA, Almeric Cheng presented Dr. Thomas Petschner with a gift of appreciation for his willingness to share with everyone his time and knowledge.
