Saturday, 2 May 2009
On Saturday evening the Auckland Tamil Women’s Organization organized an interfaith prayer service at St Matthews Anglican Church, in Auckland city for Sri Lankan victims.
Venerable Rulian lead the Temple group who participated in the service. BLIA Committee Members including Lily Bernardo, Pauline Young and members of the English Sub-chapter took part. The group chanted the Heart Sutra and recited a Prayer for World Peace.
Denise Kelsall of St Matthews Church addressed the gathering that had representatives from the Hindu, Christian, Catholic, Sri Lankan and approximately ten other faiths. All participated with their own prayers and blessings – according to their religions.
The atmosphere was harmonious and full of peacefulness. Participants opened the door of their heart and transferred merit to victims in Sri Lanka.
After the ceremony, everyone shared their joyfulness and was encouraged and motivated to overcome their jealousy, greed and hatred by remembering and putting into practice – Praise, Generosity and Wisdom.
