Delight at First Sight! Probus Members Visit Exhibition
On 14th April, 26 members of the Christchurch Aotea Combined Probus visited Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery South Island New Zealand. The visit was organised by Mrs. Mary Milne, and the purpose for the outing was to enable their members to witness the embroidery artworks of Ms. Yao.
Probus was first established in United Kingdom and now there are many clubs in both Australia and New Zealand. Probus provides friendship and fellowship for retired professional, business and likeminded people.
The visitors were welcomed by BLIA South Island Vice-president Mr. Jack Liu, assistant curator See Shen Lee and Venerable Juexi. Under the guidance of Mr. Liu and Ms. Lee, the visitors embarked on their Temple and Art Gallery tour. As they were taken around, the visitors expressed amazement at the design and concept of the building. Although the group of retirees was interested in western embroidery, they had nothing but unreserved praise when they witnessed the embroidery of Ms. Yao.
After the tour, the group had afternoon tea at the Tea House. While enjoying the vegetarian cuisine, the probus members participated in an impromptu contest; where they voted for the best home planted plant, and See Shen was invited to be the the judge for it. The winner received a self-made cup, and second and third prize were chocolate chips. Forth place got a cake sponsored by the Tea House. After their visit, probus members expressed their delight in gaining new knowledge, and they commented that will bring their friends and family for a tour of the Temple and its Embroidery Exhibition.
