Discussion Panel with the YAD about Localisation
On 20th September YAD’s new Chairperson and fellows held a discussion panel with the Abbess regarding localisation. Other guests included BLIA South Island President See Shen Li, BLIA North Island President Stephen Xu and 15 Directors.
This discussion centres on “localisation” as according to the wise directions of Venerable Master Hsing Yun. To this the youths brought up many points regarding differing environments, language as well as contrast between traditional and modern views. These mutual sharing of experiences generated many proposals of innovative ways to propagate the Dharma.
The Abbess explained that if one wants to localise then one should localise themselves first. As suggested by Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s article, only through proactively serving others can one familiarise and understand New Zealand’s local culture. Furthermore, understand one’s existing conditions is important so one can know whether they have enough resources to spread Bodhi seeds in New Zealand. The Abbess also encouraged the youths to organise more classes, so everyone can comprehensively elevate themselves, thus able to successful localise.
