NZ Police Commissioner Ethnic Communities Focus Forum Held at the Temple
On 27th August, “NZ Police Commissioner Ethnic Communities Focus Forum” was held for a second time at the temple. In attendance included Police Commissioner Mike Bush, Superintendent Wallace Haumaha, Deputy Chief Executive Fiona Michel, Superintendent John Tims, Inspector Rakesh Nadidoo, National Chairperson Afrian Communities Council Gregory Fortuin, President Federation of Islamic Association of NZ Dr Anwar Ghani, Chairperson Asian Council for Reducing Crime Rsa Chow, Director Nirvana Health Group Ranjna Patel, Executive Director Chinese New Settlers Services Trust Jenny Wang, Editor Indian Newslink Venkat Raman and other representatives from various police, ethnic and community organisations, in total 24 people in attendance.
Venerable Abbess Manshin joined to offer blessings to the proceedings. Superintendent Wallace presented the welcome speeches and thanked Commissioner Bush for his leadership that allow all this to happen. Agendas raised for this meeting included:
1. New strategies and plans
2. Intelligence gathering strategies
3. Multicultural representatives within the police force
4. Cooperation with different ethnic groups
Through working with Massey University, the police force’s better understanding of different ethnic communities can be used come up with new strategies for the future. Other items discussed included directions for future development, future challenges and characteristic of crimes within different ethnic community. What’s emphasised is to have better understanding and cooperation between different cultures.
