Volunteers Invite Celebration With Skilful Hands

01 / 06

In conjunction with the coming of the Buddha’s Birthday Celebration, BLIA South Island’s food stall group has launched the pre-sales of vegetarian cuisine, such as vegetarian rice dumplings, vegetarian buns, spring rolls, water dumplings and carrot cake. The vegetarian food prepared by the BLIA is famous among the local community, and only early birds will have the opportunity to buy it.

On 15th March, BLIA South Island Vice-president Ms. Mei Hua Chen, together with three other committee members and volunteers gathered at Fo Guang Shan South Island’s kitchen early in the morning to prepare all the required ingredients for making a large amount of buns; which is necessary to fulfil the great demand.

The bun’s filling includes vegetarian meat slice, carrot, edible fungus and cabbage, together with sesame oil and pepper. After a day of hard work, the army of volunteers managed to make 400 vegetarian buns, which were sold out on the same day.

As soon as the volunteers finished making the buns, BLIA committee member Ms. Louisa Guo delivered the buns to all the people who ordered them.

As a token of appreciation for the volunteers’ time, effort and heart, Vice-president Ms. Chen treated all the volunteers to some afternoon tea and coffee at the Tea House. Since the orders for the food are flowing in continuously, all the volunteers are coming back again next Sunday to prepare the best of vegetarian food.
