Towards Perfection- BLIA members' “Dun Huang” Dance
To prepare for the cultural performances during Buddha’s Birthday Celebration, “Dun Huang” dance teacher. During her holiday in New Zealand, Ms. Ya Han volunteered her time to teach the “Dun Huang” dance to the dancers of BLIA South Island and its Young Adults Division.
On 12th and 14th March, the dancers gathered at Fo Guang Shan South Island for their rehearsal sessions, which were held between 7.30pm-9.30pm.
Ms. Ya Han has a Masters degree in Dance Education. In the past, she has voluntarily performed “Dun Huang Dance” in Australia, New Zealand and United Kingdom, and has been invited to perform in several important festivals in Europe.
During the sessions, Ms. Ya Han arranged a series of warm-up exercises to ensure the dancers were in the right condition to learn and practice the dancing moves. Under Ms. Ya Han’s careful demonstration and guidance, the dancers attentively observed their teacher’s steps and practiced them diligently.
In addition, Ms. Ya Han specifically requested all the dancers to use ribbons while they danced. With the help of the elegant ribbons, the dancers can perform brilliantly and achieve the best visual effect.
Everyone gained valuable skills and techniques throughout the two rehearsal sessions. The next session is scheduled for the coming Thursday and Saturday. They all hope to bring out the spirit of “Dun Huang” dance to the audiences during the Buddha’s Birthday Celebration.
