01 / 02

On 10th April, Fo Guang Shan South Island received a letter of appreciation from Former New Zealand Minister of Education, Hon. Chris Carter, who is currently an MP for the Ministry of Cultural and Ethnic Affairs and Auckland’s Te Atatu district.

On 28th February, Hon. Carter attended the opening ceremony for “Wonders of Embroidery – Yao Hong Ying Embroidery Art Exhibition” which was held at Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery South Island. Through the letter, he thanked Venerable Abbess Manshin for inviting him to the Exhibition’s launch, which he described as being a “privilege” to attend. He also praised Yao Hong Ying’s skill and precision in embroidering.

Hon. Carter explained that he is currently focusing on policies which influence the Buddhist community, and intends to bear in mind the critical role FGS’s Sangha plays in New Zealand’s Chinese and Taiwanese communities while he works through the issues.
