01 / 06

On 8th March, BLIA South Island West Sub-chapter held their autumn outdoor activity at Port Hills. In total, twenty BLIA South Island members participated in the outdoor adventure, including President Almeric Cheng and his wife, President of West Sub-chapter Ms. Tsai as well as BLIA Young Adults Division members.

At 10am, the participants assembled at Fo Guang Shan South Island, ready to depart for Port Hills. The BLIA members began their journey at Victoria Park and hiked through scenic trails, where they enjoyed breathtaking views. After an hour of hiking, they reached Sign of Kiwi, their destination. There, the members enjoyed their lunch under the glistening sun.

After having lunch, the group studied the article “Volunteer and Bodhisattva”, which was written by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Under the guidance of President Cheng, participants discussed the differences between volunteers and salvation work.

Also mentioned were the six points of being a volunteer, namely to pick the right job, to display enthusiasm, to be industrious and give encouraging words, to always give assistance to compatriots, to be willing to serve others for the purpose of creating happiness and to be the volunteer of a volunteer. In addition, taking one’s own initiative to be a volunteer is the ultimate aim of being a volunteer.

At 1:30pm, everyone began heading back home, after a refreshing day where they embarked on a journey back to mother-nature and participated in a meaningful study discussion.
