BLIA Prepare for 2009 Buddha’s Birthday Celebration
On 6th and 7th of March, preparatory meetings for the 2009 Buddha’s Birthday Celebration were held at Fo Guang Shan South Island. BLIA South Island President Mr. Almeric Cheng, Vice-presidents Mei-Hua Chen and Jack Liu, Advisor John Lai and 30 other committee members attended the meeting. Venerable Abbess Manshin came all the way from Auckland to chair the meeting and guide the BLIA in drafting a clear organisational structure of strong committee and teams for the event.
The tasks for the entire event were divided into twenty groups, and of the one hundred volunteers for the event, a team leader for each group was nominated. Each group was assigned group members to assist the team leaders in completing their tasks.
The newly nominated group leaders felt honoured for being chosen to shoulder the responsibility of running their group, and accepted their tasks without hesitation. Venerable Abbess Manshin also encouraged the members to be more dynamic and be enthusiastic in organising this Celebration, and to set a new benchmark in quality and uniqueness this year round.
The BLIA organised 2009 Buddha’s Birthday Celebration will be held on 18th April in front of Christchurch’s Cathedral Square. With less than a month to go, all the volunteers, under the guidance of Venerable Abbess, the BLIA President and Committee members, will give their best for the final sprint to yet another successful event.
