Second visit by Mission Heights College to the Temple for Festival of Culture Sharing
On 26th May, 240 students and teachers from Mission Heights College visited the temple. They were received by Venerable Zhiming, who explained the meaning of “3 good deeds and 4 kinds of giving” and ideals of Humanistic Buddhism.
Venerable Zhiming also explained the symbolism of Mondo Grass and instructed the kids on silent sitting meditation in the courtyard by contemplating their breathing thereby experience the temple’s tranquillity and receive nutrients for wisdom.
Police representative Nikul Patel used wit and humour to instruct the students, which allowed everyone to understand how the police spend their days to “nanny” the public. To this the students laughed and asked many questions.
Then the volunteers led the kids to look at the estuary art exhibition, 3G4G little monk temporary tattoos and ringing the wishing bell.
This was followed by watching short films “old man doing good” and “the Buddha”, eating chocolate brownie and making lotus origami under the guidance of Venerable Miaoyu.
Lastly all the students took a cute group photo together with the paper lotus on their right hand and 3G4G tattoos on their left hand. Another successful day of Festival of Culture Sharing was completed by planting many more wholesome seeds into young minds.
