Baverstock Oaks Primary visits the Temple again for Festival of Culture Sharing

01 / 14

On 19th and 20th May, 160 teachers and parents guided 700 Baverstock Oaks Primary students to visit the temple for “Festival of Culture Sharing”. The students impressed everyone with their good manners and orderly fashion where older kids took care of their younger fellow pupils. During the 20th May session Police officer Rory Williams explained the concept of 3G4G to the kids according to the police’s perspective. He encouraged everyone to take good care of their action, speech and thoughts.

While they were visiting the Estuary Art Exhibition, there were many adorable comments includes “We are gonna eat brownies soon!” and “There’s little monk tattoos there, I will take you!” Some kids has already participated this event last year, so they are very co-operative with BLIA volunteers.

Besides treating the students to tasty cakes and films about 3G4G, Venerable Miaoyu and Venerable Zhiming also taught them how to make lotus origami and questions and answer games. Those were joyfully received by the children.

Interview of the Baverstock Oaks students for their 2nd visit:

Officer Rory Williams:
“3 Good deeds and 4 kinds of giving” is basically my job. As a police officer I have to face many different kinds of people. Not do I have to communicate well I also have to pay attention to my attitude and postures because I believe who I am facing will treat me the same way. It’s like helping children crossing the street; deal with traffic accidents and regular patrols to make people feel safe. All are for the sake of giving people better living environment.

Baverstock Oaks student Katrina Phan, Danica Lim Chong and Raeesa Dada:
Katrina and Danica were very happy at “Festival of Culture Sharing”: We learn how to apply 3G4G in daily. Just like what teachers taught at school, we should apply 3G4G by helping others, including our family and those injured or in danger. We also learn what “Ji Xiang” means!

Raeesa Dada’s parents:
This is the first time our kid visited this temple with her fellow students for this “Festival of Culture Sharing”. I think this event really fits with the school’s mottos, especially now we are all living in a multicultural society, so we should learn how to mutually respect and care for different ethnicity, culture and faith. “3 good deeds and 4 kinds of giving” has very humanistic meanings that are important lessons for the children outside of normal curriculum.
