Auspicious Day Commemorated by Special Congee

01 / 06

Being Sakyamuni Buddha’s Enlightenment Day on the 3rd of January, Venerable Juexi led around 40 participants in chanting the Diamond Sutra to commemorate the auspicious day. After the Dharma Service, Eight Treasure Congee was bestowed to those present. Devotees were also given the opportunity to bring home take-away bowls of the special congee to share with family and friends.

As well as providing Eight Treasure Congee for the people at the Temple, many bowls of porridge, along with new years’ scrolls with Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Dharma words “Earnest cultivation yields fruitful harvests” were given to the local shops, restaurants and businesses which have supported the Temple throughout the years.

Buddha’s Light International Association South Island president Almeric Cheng and BLIA committee members Louisa Kuo and Mei-Er Tsai drove around Christchurch to deliver the gifts of gratitude, for which the recipients received with joy. The BLIA members also took the opportunity to encourage the supporters to come to the temple more regularly.
