On 28th March, Manukau Police’s “Everyday Heroes” was held at Botany Town Centre. It included many culture performances, community service stalls, simulation of scenes of crime investigation and demonstrations of weaponries. It comprehensively showed the co-operation and functions between the police, fire services and St Johns for safe guarding the public. It is hope this will close the distance between the police and the general public.

Venerable Abbess Manshin and 20 BLIA Members were invited to join this event. The congregation offered blessings and recited Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s “Prayers and Wishes for Police Officers” for the event.

Police Superintendent John Tims thanked Fo Guang Shan for their support as well as their propagation of the values of “Three Good Deeds and Four Kinds of Giving”. He emphasised that only through co-operation between the police and the public can we ensure a safe community. He also hopes that positive energy of religion can beautify New Zealand.

Wellington Deputy Police Commissioner Grant Nicholls also came to visit the temple. He was welcomed by the Abbess and other members, where they offered incense to the Buddha in the Main Shrine and visited the Irena Keckes and Nim Flora Chan’s art exhibition.

The Abbess also played videos showing “history of co-operation between NZ Police and Fo Guang Shan”, “2014 BLIA activities report” and “16th term ANZBYC” for the guests. She also explained Fo Guang Shan’s work on propagating Buddhism locally and thanked the police for their support.

The Deputy Commissioner expressed that the film showed great powers. Even though the police and the temple has different fields of work, but their goal of purify society is the same.
