New Chairperson for English Sub-chapter Elected – Localising Humanistic Buddhism
On 29th October, BLIA North Island’s English Sub-chapter hosted a new Chairperson Election and Fellowship Get Together. It was attended by Venerable Miaoyu, new BLIA North Island President Stephen Xu and English sub-chapter committee members, altogether 15 people in attendance.
The Get Together started with BLIA Advisor Lesley introducing the newly elected chairperson Stuart, who thanked everyone for their support and also announced ESC’s new vice chairpersons, secretary and committee members.
President Stephen acknowledged that all ESC members have benefitted greatly under the guidance of Venerable Miaoyu through the weekly “Wednesday night Lotus link Buddhism class” and “Saturday Meditation classes”. He also informed every one of the positive feedback from schools that participated in the “Festival of Culture Sharing”. During the October International BLIA AGM, this event was praised by the organisation, therefore acknowledging confidence in ESC’s new leadership and team will bring the goal of localisation to a new peak.
This was followed by Venerable Miaoyu thanking everyone for continuously supporting all the activities. Not only have everyone diligently provided services to others, by putting what we’ve learnt into practice also elevated our levels of self-cultivation. She hopes the team will continue to work well together and to come up with new and meaningful activities to attract new members to join our team.
Lastly activity initiator Alan reported that since 28th September, the team have accumulated over $3000 as a part of the “South Island Temple Remediation Car Valet Fundraise”. This result is the fruition of great team work among ESC. Not only was fund raised for a meaningful cause, but the members have also gotten to know each other better.
Rest of the Get Together was celebrated until a relaxed and joyful atmosphere with many members bringing tasty treats to be shared with each other and many interesting conversations were had.
