“Nature and Life Floral Week” Permeates Fragrance
“Nature and Life Floral Week”, which is organized by Buddha’s Light International Association South Island, began on the 13th of December 2008 with lavender tea and cookie tasting and demonstrations of floral arrangement.
The floral displays filled Fo Guang Shan South Island Temple with fragrant scents and pleasant sights. In total, more than 40 different flower arrangements were produced and exhibited at Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery 2.
The vivacious floral arrangements were arranged by members of Ikebana International Christchurch Chapter 202, as well as other flower arranging enthusiasts and students taught by member of Ikebana school Ms. May Wang. The event will be on for the rest of the week, with various members of Ikebana providing daily twenty minute demonstrations of flower arrangement.
The maiden demonstration of “Nature and Life Floral Week” was done by flower arranging artist Kay Thomson of Ikebana school. She demonstrated three different styles of flower arrangements during the twenty minute session and provided explanations of what she was doing as she entertained the audience.
Around 30 people who attended the flower arrangement demonstration tried the special lavender tea and biscuits which were available at the Lavender stall at the Tea House.
