Trauma recovery workshops were organised by New Zealand Red Cross on the 8th of October in Christchurch where professionals were there to share with volunteers on what are the measures that should be taken in cases of emergency in work places and how to react to those in need of relieve. Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) South Island NZ Director, Jack Liu and English sub-chapter Member Sally Lim respectfully attended the event.

The workshop started with the purpose of proper recovery. The main differences comparing with traditional concepts are, the current redefined concepts are to guide people in valuing life and plan for a better future. The event followed with role plays in between volunteers to help reflect those in need and group discussions were done in order for participants to coordinate to work with not just individuals, but also to small groups and the community.

Jack Liu from BLIA shared that after attending the workshop, he understands more in the importance of a volunteer. As BLIA and the Red Cross has the service of delivering food to the needy, he expresses that volunteers could give more care to the elderlies. And by practicing Three Goods and Four Giving by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, it could be beneficial in the acts of giving and receiving.
