Westlake Boys Students Visits Fo Guang Shan
On 25th Jul, under the guidance of teacher Peony Jaw, 94 students from Westlake Boys High visited Fo Guang Shan. They were welcomed by Venerable Miaoyu and 4 BLIA volunteers, who took the visitors to tour the temple ground and allowed them to understand the various symbolisms, Chinese history, Buddhist philosophies and culture throughout the premises.
The student showed great interest toward explanations of the functions of various Shrines, Buddhist etiquettes, symbolism behind striking of the gong and drum each morning and night. Then they practice Tai Qi under the guidance of Venerable Miaoyu in front of the Main Shrine, experiencing the peacefulness in movement.
The students immensely enjoyed the “A world tour of sculptures from the four great Chinese novel” exhibition, where they eagerly took pictures to share with facebook friends and playfully emulated the postures portrayed.
The visiting students are all currently taking curriculum on Chinese, so everyone exclaimed at the perfectly selection of this destination. Through the wide windows of Buddhism, they were able to witness the charm of Chinese culture and better understood the wisdom behind Chinese characters.
