The Theme of Fo Guang Shan

English Sub-Chapter Lotus Link Dharma Class

Ten members gathered on Wednesday 5 November to participate in the Buddha’s Light philosophy class for the final rehearsal of a drama called the Squirrel Man Ti from ‘How I Practice Humanistic Buddhism’ and the waiata they were going to sing at the Humanistic Buddhism Study Group Closing Ceremony on Sunday 9 November.

Venerable Miaoyu led the discussion and shared with the group the theme of Fo Guang Shan monastery:
• Glory to the Buddha
• Success to the team or multitude
• Benefit to the monastery
• Merit to the devotees

If we are able to apply these themes to cultivate and contribute to Buddhism we will be able to obtain the right view and contribute unconditionally which will help us to eliminate self ego, expectation of a good name or return and arrogance. These conditions will grow our faith and belief in that Buddhism relies on the self not others. If we apply these themes to our daily life we will be able to determine good practice with the right view and eliminate our self-centeredness.

All of the members were happy to learn about the theme of Fo Guang Shan and through their understanding are encouraged to follow the guidelines to walk alone on the Bodhisattva path.
