‘Six things a volunteer should remember’
Public Relation Study Group – 19 October 2008
Ten members attended the discussion group guided by Venerable Rulian. They gathered on the Cherry Blossom deck to study the article written by our Venerable Master Hsing Yun, ‘six things a volunteer should remember’, to enable them to have a deeper understanding of the meaning of being a Fo Guang (Buddha’s Light) volunteer and in doing so, how to live harmoniously with their family and friends while benefiting society.
Dolly, President of the BLIA, shared with the group how volunteers have to contribute unselfishly; to keep improving their attitude and intentions; to be a good example to others and to continue to apply and cultivate their practice diligently. Other members stated that volunteers need to accept any obstructions as good opportunities to grow and transcend themselves to gain more merit and understanding.
The venerable concluded the discussion by saying that a good volunteer has to be responsible; have good intentions; be willing to provide a good service; be happy to give; not compare or discriminate any part of the work but always be sincere and respect what ever they are asked to do. In this way volunteers will experience Dharma joy and gain invaluable merit.
