Opening of the Ormiston Road Bridge

Saturday 11 October 2008

Venerable Abbess Manshin, Venerable Miao Yu and approximately 50 members from the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple attended the opening of the Ormiston Road Bridge, which was a splendid representation on this auspicious occasion for the local community.

The ceremony commenced with a welcoming karakia by Komata Harry Williams, followed by speeches from David Collins, the MC; Lindsay Crossen, CEO of Fulton Hogan, the builders of the bridge; Alan Powell, project director of Beca, the designers and Len Brown, Mayor of Manukau City.

After the ribbon cutting, the Manukau Pipe Band lead the invited guests and general public over the bridge to the static display of Targa cars before returning on the other side of the road. There was a corporate marquee for invited guests and an information centre displaying plans for Flat Bush City. There were food stalls including a vegetarian stall organized by the Temple.
