Fo Guang Shan Supports Police’s “Neighbourhood Support” Initiative
On 28th June, Ormiston Police Department organised a “Neighbourhood Support” initiative where 12 members of Fo Guang Shan were invited to provide translation for the police as they visit local to promote this initiative.
The workshop’s contents were explained to the volunteers by Officer Philip, who are then all assigned to visit residents in the Ormiston area. This is truly a test of endurance and dedication because the volunteers had to brave heavy rain to visit each individual address. On arrival the officer will courteously share with the resident about the state of local public order, how to keep in touch with the neighbours and how to achieve the goal of better co-operation between police and the community. The need for these sharing resulted from recent cases of items being stolen from the car with perpetrators smashing windows. So it’s highly advised to not leave valuables such as phones, wallets/purse and even Chinese newspapers! One needs to be especially vigilant while shopping, so one should always remember to lock the car. Ultimately, the best form of safety prevention is when neighbours can keep in touch and look after each other. The police also encouraged everyone to join “neighbourhood watch” to spread awareness of crime prevention in the local area.
Despite 3 hours of tiring work, the accomplishment of this mission of Police and public co-operation made everyone realise all the efforts were well worth it.
