Self Affirmation
13 September 2008
Nine members took part in tai chi, walking, motive and sitting meditation. The theme of the motive meditation was to experience the feeling of nature, the warmth of the sun and the gently breeze.
During the Dharma talk, led by Venerable Miaoyu, the group was asked to think about, and reflect upon, ways in which they can affirm themselves. Each member contributed to the discussion sharing ways in which they accepted both positive and negative situations in their lives and how they could overcome negativity. In guiding the group to become aware of the practice of self-affirmation, Venerable Miaoyu explained the need to be self-motivated, self-taught, self-enriching and self-reflecting without relying on the assistance of others. In this way we can discover our own self through self-contemplation.
After the Service a group of members worked together as a harmonious team to create their display for the Lantern Festival on Sunday 14 September. The theme of their display was in interpretation of Eastern and Western Humanistic Buddhism incorporating Chinese and Kiwi materials.
