Multiculturalism exchange with Korean Buddha’s Birthday
Korean Buddhist temple in Christchurch, the Myo-sim-sa, held the Buddha’s Birthday on 20 May where the Secretary, Ahn Unjoong invited BLIA members and other societies to the event. Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) South Island NZ President, Bernie, Deputy President, Ding Lihson and other members that totaled up to five attended the event with warm welcome from the hosts, Venerable Hye-su snim and President Sean Kim.
The ceremony commenced with the Six Sacred Offerings, Dharma Ceremony and Sutra Chanting. The emcee briefed on this year’s title for their Buddha’s Birthday being “A Beautiful World Filled with Wisdom and Compassion”. Myo-sim-sa’s President Kim followed in his speech welcoming his guests and everyone that attended the ceremony. Venerable Hyesu snim then explained on what meditation brings and one should treat other in a harmonious way. After the Buddha Bathing Ceremony, BLIA members thanked the Myo-sim-sa team for the invitation and invited them to Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery to appreciate a newly exhibition entitled “Horizons” from local artist, Dean Buchanan and a photography exhibition from a Holland artist, Rudy Heijman.
