Moved by Master Hsing Yun’s Wise Words, Visitors Vowed to Practice 3 Good Deeds

01 / 07

Starting from August 2020, visitors to Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Temple South Island were able to pick Master Hsing Yun’s Wise Words at all key entry points of the Temple. This arrangement has received good response from the public, especially the local Kiwis who claim to have benefitted greatly from the Wise Words.

Local Kiwi Hamish, who resides in the small town of Omaru, accompanied by his Taiwanese girlfriend Vivian, came over to Christchurch during his recent holidays to visit his grandma Anise. On 13th October 2020, accompanying Anis, Hamish and Vivian visited FGS Temple South Island, Anis’s favorite place of visit. This was his first visit to the FGS South Island, and Hamish was full of praises for the Temple’s beautiful environment, and the Water Drop Café’s delicious vegetarian food. At the entry to Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery, Hamish tried his hands on picking the Wise Words of Master Hsing Yun. When he afterwards read the content of the pick ‘Do Good Thing’ to his grandma Anis, she agreed wholeheartedly with it and reminded everyone to do good things at all times. She further added that Hamish’s willingness to accompany her to FGS South Island was itself a personification of Do Good Thing teaching. Gallery Official Juin Mei explained that Do Good Thing was just one of the 3 Good Deeds expounded by Master Hsin Yun, the other two being Speak Good Word and Think Good Thought. Hamish then promised to keep all the 3 Good Deeds in his mind.

Another visitor to the FGY Art Gallery, Julia Allen, also picked Do Good Thing as the Wise Words from Master Hsing Yun, and she found the content to be very meaningful. Julia recalled that she had just tidied up her garden this morning, making it tidy and pleasing to the eyes. To her, the effort to bring joy to those who view her beautiful garden could also be construed as Doing Good Thing. Julia claimed that, when she caught view of the statues of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in the Art Gallery and the Water Drop Café, she became overwhelmed with emotions. This was because, last year, she was gifted with a portrait of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva by a friend who told her about the Bodhisattva’s great vows to help those in need of help.  Ever since then, whenever Julia met with difficult situation, she would pray to Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, and she would always find her prayer answered. Julia exclaimed that how she wished everyone could be like Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, carrying out good deed to help others all the times.
